One of the most common questions we are asked is whether a motor is worth repairing, or whether it’s just better to changeover to a new one.
Now, this should always be judged on a case by case basis, as not all models, even if they were built the same year, will have the same amount of wear and tear. Things like the size and weight of the door, the number of cycles it does per day and how regular the owners had them serviced are significant factors.
Some of the things that we advise our customers to consider are:
– The availability of parts, now and in the future
– The wear and tear on the motor and hardware on the non-broken parts
– The condition of the door
– The cost of repair vs replacement
One of the key things to take into consideration is that many manufacturers are no longer making parts for their systems. They are creating motors to be installed replaced, so in a lot of cases even when a small part goes, the whole motor needs to be replaced. This is why we always recommend using the bigger manufacturers and their better quality motors, as they will make spare parts for future repairs. They also tend to support the customers a lot better in regards to technical support and advice.
